Report on reopening First Lutheran

On Tuesday, July 7, the Ad Hoc Committee to re-open First Lutheran Church met to discuss progress in complying with Washington State and Health Department requirements for an in-person worship service. Our discussion centered on worship space, Holy Communion, important signage needed, and cleaning. The Ad Hoc Committee, Church Council and Pastor Ray are committed to keeping all who attend any in-person worship service as safe as possible given WA State and Health Department guidelines. With this in mind, these are standards the Committee has set:
- The Committee urges anyone who is ill or has been exposed to anyone with COVID-19 to remain at home. If you would like to be tested, please check the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department website
- For contact tracing purposes, upon entering FLC you will be asked to sign-in. Only your name will be needed. The information will be kept for 14 to 21 days and then shredded if no one attending the service shows signs of infection
- All worshipers must wear a face covering. If a worshiper does not have a face covering, one will be provided
- Physical distancing of six or more feet is mandatory. Family units and couples will be able to sit together. Individuals need to be six or more feet away from others
- There will be a limit of 50 worshipers
- There will be no gathering for fellowship following worship
- Congregational and Individual singing will not be allowed at this time
- We will not be able to Pass the Peace, shake hands, fist/elbow bump, or hug
First Lutheran’s re-opening service will be held on Saturday, August 1 at 5:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. Please stay tuned for further developments as the Committee continues to serve the members, associate members and friends of First Lutheran Church. Your safety is our chief concern.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Steve
