Like most of you, I have been watching some of the 2016 Olympic Games. The opening ceremony from Rio was to me a reminder of the Beijing Olympic Games from 2008. 90,000 people watched it live in the Bird’s Next Stadium. It was inspiring to hear about China’s more than 5,000 years of history and the inventions she has contributed to the world: papermaking, the compass, movable-type printing, and fireworks.

When reading through the Bible some years ago, I remember that the Queen of Sheba was greatly impressed by what she saw during her visit with King Solomon (1 Kings 10:4-5). The sights of Jerusalem overwhelmed her, but most of all she was impressed with Solomon’s wisdom. She was convinced that the Israelites were happy because they continually stood before him and heard his wisdom. She concluded by praising Solomon’s Lord for making him king so he would “do justice and righteousness.”

Solomon’s impact on the people of Israel made me wonder about chinaconnect’s contribution to the world, or at least a small corner of it. chinaconnect is one of many foreign organizations serving in rural China. Our work with Peace Primary School is but one way we try to have a positive impact on people’s lives and the world. chinaconnect is hoping to expand to two more primary schools but the time is not quite right, but one day it will be.

chinaconnect is not concerned about impressing others with our abilities, but we do want to make a difference in the lives of people so we can give thanks to God. What if there was one thing each of us did today that caused people, like the Queen of Sheba, to praise the Lord?

Blessings and Peace,

Steve
