The Apostle Paul wrote, “Each person should give what they have decided in their heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthi- ans 9:7). Because our hearts are filled with joy, the decision to give generously is an easy one to make. Because of joy, we are eager to present our tithes and offerings. Because of joy, giving is not an obligation, but a cheerful response of gratitude for all that God has given us. Because of joy, no arm-twisting is necessary to make Christians give; we are ask- ing ourselves “How much can I give?” not “How much must I give?”

Prayer: Lord, you are the creator and source of all things. Grant me a heart filled with joy and gratitude for all that you are and do for me. Help me to hold onto things of this world loosely. Forgive me when I fail to show you my thankfulness. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
