Our Journey of Faith Together

On a popular television game show, the host will often ask contestants, “If you win a million dollars, what will you do with the money?” Some talk of buying a bigger home, taking trips, or paying off bills. It’s surprising how many also mention sharing their money with others or contributing to worthy causes.

One of the greatest themes of Scripture is that of using the gifts we have been given. If we have money, we are urged to use it to help those less fortunate. If we have abilities, they are to be used for the benefit of all. If we can sing, we are to sing praises to God; if we can speak, we are to use our voices to tell the good news. Our gifts may be to build, to grow food, to cook, to teach, to pray, or to listen. Whatever they are, God can use them in the work of the Kingdom.

Those who know the story of salvation have their greatest gift in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus tells us that we are not to hide our gifts, but rather to let his light shine through them for all to see. As we enter the month of September and the beginning of a new school year and the start-up of regular activities at First Lutheran, let the light of Christ shine through the gifts he has given to you. “From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required (Luke 12:48). In what ways has God blessed you with gifts to further his Kingdom?

Right now, more than ever, your gifts are needed at First Lutheran…your gifts are needed to join in God’s bright future of ministry and mission. All of you are needed, from the youngest to the oldest, to be part of God’s plan for our congregation. Our God has given you much, has entrusted you with much. Now, how are you going to use what God has given to you? See you in worship!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Steve
